BULB EXHIBITION
HELD IX MASTERTOX. Tho bulb exhibition hold in tho sample rooms of tho Club Hotel, Masterton, yesterday, under the auspices of the Masterton Horticultural and -Industrial Society, proved a great attraction to country people, as well as to residents of tho town. Tho exhibition was a really creditable one, some of tho blooms being magnificent. The collection of daffodils shown by Mr Alfred Booth, of "Hawarden," Carterton, was in itself worth going miles to see. Some of the exhibits came from very valuable stocks. Tho exhibit made by Messrs Cooper and Sons, of Wellington, was also very much admired. The local exhibits showed a distinct improvement upoi? what has previously been shown in the district. Only four of the local classes were judged, and tho competition in each class was keen. Tho collections of twelve varieties of narcissi were particularly charming. Mr H. M. Boddington (tho capable secretary) had the whole of the arrangements in perfect order, and tho exhibition was altogether a credit to the Society: The result of the judging by Mrs V\". H. Trumpet Daffodils (three varieties, not more than three blooms of each). —Mrs G. W. Sellar 1, A. J. StoneWigg 2. Five entries. Medium Cup (three varieties). —Mrs G. W. Sellar 1, A. J. Stone-Wipg 2. Six entries.
Small Cup (three varieties).—H. J. Cassin 1, Mrs G. W. Sellar 2. ■ Six entries.
Collection of Narcissi (twelve varieties).—Mrs G.. W. Sellar ], H. J. Cassin 2, G. C. Sommerell 3. Seven entries.
Bosidos the exhibition display made by Messrs A. Booth and Cooper and Sons, a fine exhibit of anemones, stocks, pansies, wail-flowers, narcissi, etc.. was made by T)r Archer flos-l.-it'K. Mrs Trimble exhibited a splendid bowl of anemone blooms. Mrs Soharnweber showed some very fine bulbs, and Mrs Meredith made a creditable general exhibition of spring blooms. Two fine specimens of evebmen were shown by Mrs W. T . Hirseliberg, together with a beautiful collection of hyacinths. The Lansdownc' school children exhibited a varied collection of well-developed narcissi. Mrs TT. E. Monro showed a rare species of tho hyacinth. Mr James Candy a mng"'ficenl- vari-colonred cyclamen. Mrs Bee an assortment of bulbs, and Mrs cS"i+'i i-d!'*. peas and pansies. Oliver Smith bulbs, sweet peas and pansies.
