— (WASTERTON PICTURE COMPANY. 'TWJXT WAR AND THE GIRL." [ Tho change of programme at the [ Town Hall last evening attracted a I big house. The bill of fare provided i by tho enterprising management was iof a very high standard, and well merited the enthusiastic applau.se which greeted the various productions. All branches of photo-plays were presented, and each, film represented the very latest production in its respective class. No better military drama has been presented in Masterton than last night's star entitled 'Twist War.and the Girl." The many stirring scenes of the Franco-Germaii war were portrayed' with a realism that left little to imagination. The staging, acting and colouring all reached a very high point of perfection, while lie love vein which is cleverly woven throughout the piece gives that toiich of romance which greatly adds to the charm of the drama. TJj£ j-emailling films are. of equally high quality, maMiig-._th? programme as a whole the best we have had yet presented at tho Town Hall. This excellent enteriamment will be continued this evening, and, to-morrow for tho last. time. On Saturday the usual matinee will be held, and in the.evening a splendid attraction will be submitted as a change of programme.
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURE-. "THE CHANCELLOR." The programme to be presented at the Foresters' Hall to-nigjit is worthy of special mention—notably for its all round excellence —but for the fact that the great Nordisk drama, "TheChancellor, or the Black Panther," which caused such a .controversy in Europe recently owing to the realistic hometruths contained in the picture, will be the star attraction. It is a page out of the recently history of one of the nations in Europe, and the showing of the picture has been prohibited in-that - particular. State. In "The Chancellor" avc have a drama of striking feature. This brute in human form is scon in his most diabolical attitude, sto:v>mg n<-. Nothing to gain his owr. fioirliyh ends. Comedy is nhvavs acceptable, and in "Winnie':, Dance" we see the power of a smile. In "Hvpnotic Nell" (Kalem), magic bvprso-ism is carried on by one of the girls of the West. Among the other fine pictures are Niagara Falls (taken from"a- new asnoet). "Cowgirl Pranks" (screaming comedy), "Marion" (drama). "Tho Comers'' Den" (drama), "Mind the Paint: Scones in the Dark" "The Pirates' Rock" (drama). Pnthe's latest Gazette competes a series strong and interesting.
