THE POSITION AT WAIHI.
The position in regard to the Waihi strike ha,? readied the stage of a ensis.. The Federation of Labour has done its best to prevent an amicable adjustment of the 'difficulty, and its rnemb?rs are going to gaol rather tha,n find sureties to maintain the peace. These obstructionists will, of course, claim to be martyrs, and will anpeal to others whom they have inflamed to resort to sympathetic stikes. Whether this appeal will meet with a willing
response remains to be seen. It i<s to behoped, in the interests of the country, and of the men themselves.
that good sense Avill prevail over indiscretion, i:nd that further striking will be avoided. Meanwhile, the Government must maintain a stiff back. Jt must not yield an inch to the revolutionaries. The law must bo vindicated to the utmost, and order must bo maintained! at ail hazards.
