CRUELTY TO MONKEYS
~ (By leleqraiih —Press Association .) TLMA.RU, Last Night. Before Mr V. G. Day, S.iJ., Captain Vint, of the s.s. Aparima, was charged with cruolty to animals in allowing thirty monkeys to he cmwded into three small boxes, and to be underfed. The charge was laid against a member of the coolie crew, who brought the monkeys from India, tor sale, and tho captain was' held to be responsible as a freight of ; >s e-ach was paid. Tho captain was convicted, and ordered to pay costs. Counsel for the S.P.O.A. said the case was also a breach of tho quarantine law.
