Tho wicket was fast. Gregory was suffering from a chill. Maclaren and Hazlitt disposed of six South of England men by 2.50, when the innings was declared closed. Maclaren was especially destructive. Tho batting was lively. Tho century was hoisted in 95 minutes. Barrett gave a splendid ohanceless display. Bard'sley caught Chaplin brilliantly, low down at long off, falling with the ball. The Australians were at the wickets 110 minutes. Runs came fast, tho century appearing in 75 minutes. Jennings showed stylish play. He •hit a sixer and seven fours, and batted for 70 minutes.
