AMUSEMENTS
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURE*.. "A Bonser Programme" was the general opinion passed by the big audience at the Forester's Hall last evening. And it was a good programme—one of the best ever seen in Masterton. There were subjects'to suit all tastes, the dramas and comedies being particularly fine efforts. "The Mine 011 tlie Yukon" was quite a fresh, interesting story. An old miner dies in. the Yukon district of .Canada, and in sending borne the news to his wife one of the miners add., tliafc the only property left by deceased was an. old whare and a mine i that nobody believed in except the dead owner. To widow sets off to the mine, and after finding herself unable to keep up the payment to have the claim worked, she dons man's attire and sot sto herself. For her pains the other miners only jeer and laugh at her—all except one, and lie acts as a sort ,of guardian over her. At last the female miner strikes payable dirt, but is immediately after struck down with illness. Before her recovery the claim is "jumped," and an appeal made to the authorities to uphold the claims of the "juniper." Fate soon overtakes him, and he is rescued from a snowstorm 'by a pari.y | led by the rightful owner of the j »mine, the female miner. On liio recovery his conscience compels the transfer of his ill-gotten mine to ■ the woman, who henceforth simply raises money by the barrowful. Her pretty daughter arrives on the scene, and tlie only true man among the crowd, the one who protected the woman, receives his. just reward by the daughter fulling in love with him. Other dramatic films were "Won by Waiting," "The Price of Silence," "An Adventurer's Love" and "Counsel for the Defence." "Helen's Marriage," "Chant-illy Cream," "The Baby," and "The Leading Man" contributed much fun to the evening's amusement. A Pathe Gazette contained many interesting items, and an exhibtiion of souw of the latest fascinating fashions from Paris. A Oaumont Graphic wasalso screened, and as an educnitonal film "Habits and Customs of the Persians" was shown. The programme will be repeated this evening. The children's matinee will take place tomorrow at 2.30 p.m.. when an extra .special programme will be presented.
