MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

I ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Master- - ton Borough Council was held last evening, there being present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), Ors H. J. O'Leary, F. W. Temple, E. Flanagan, W. Candy. J. .C. Ewington, D. Prentice and A. Donald. An application was received for the • . installation of a water connection for the purposes of fire extinguishing. It was decided that the application be granted on the condition that the water is used only for lire-purposes, and that the applicant bear the entire - cost. A letter was received from the Mas- .• terton Hospital authorities, stating r that the gas service at the hospital was ■ used for the dual purpose of lighting ; ahd heating. The letter which was considered a satisfactory roply to the Council's request, was received. A ratepayer wrote compliiining'of. damage done to his property during ' the recent heavy rains owing to faulty culverts; and asking,tJio Council to take steps to prevent a recurrence. ' It was decided that the applicant bo informed that the Council would! consider the matter, and report at a later date. A communication was received oil behalf of a ratepayer in reference to proposal to subdivide property in Herbert Street, and asking Council to supply requirements in regard to the formation and construction of the new load on the property. It was decided that the Council inform. the applicant that it approves of tho plan on tho condition that channelling as well as kerbing be put in the street, and- that a four-inch water main be installed. The reports of the Borough engineer, gas manager, manager of the attoirs. librarian and pound keeper wore read and adopted. Accounts amounting to £1915 17s <kT, wero passed for payment.
