THE RIGHT LINES.
The citizens of Masterton are moving along the right linos in forming a Closer Settlement League. Such a League, if properly handled, could do much to bring the claims of the district before the Government, and to open negotiations with,; owners. That'there are a number dfi.estates within eaev distance of the town that are adapted for, closer settlement is certain. Owners themselves must realise that it is only question of time when the demands for settlement will compel! «üb-divis-ion. They would be doing justice bv themselves and he rendering n genuivo service to the district- by voluntarily cutting up a portion of their fstnte? at once.- Possibly if .the League just formed were to approach some of owners they would induce tliem to subdivide sooner than would he the case under ordinary circumstances.
