THE PUBLIC LIBRARY.
The Mijsterton. Borough Council has set up a committee to report upon the administration of the Public Library. That committee should have no difficulty in arriving at the conclusion, that it is not in the interests of the ratepayers as a body that the Library should be maintained at the expense of the public, unless it is made free to all, in the same way as the public reading room. Indeed, it seems to us that it is hardly the functions of the civic fatherhood to provide works of fiction for the delectation of the public, when their works may be obtained from booksellers in the town at comparatively little cost. Tn any case, if the Library is to be maintained out of rates, it should be available free to ratepayers, or burgesses, and should be made something more than a resort for fictionhunters.
