THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
If any argument were required m support of the contentioa that the Legislative Council should be reformed it is to be found in tho discussion which has been proceeding in that august Chamber during the last few days. The reasoning employed by tho Lords has been so peculiarly quaint as to be almost beyond comprehension. One, for instance, argued that because the Council had been in existence for fifty years, no change was desired. Another thought it had done such excellent work that it deserved to be spared. We have been waiting for the opinion of the Hon. Hamilton Gilmer on the subject. When '.this is given, we shall probably be able to arrive at some more definite, conclusion as to the value of the Upper Chamber.
