NEW YORK, August 25

At Springfield, Illinois, a negro chauffeur named Johnson murdered a girl named Ruth Powers, and then committed suicide. For a while there was every prospect of a repetition of the bloody rage riots four years ago. The people would not believe tliat the man had committed suicide, but the coroner (Mr Rlioadcs) averted trouble by announcing that the people could view the body of the murderer.
