AN INTERESTING EXPOSURE
OF MR'ROOSEVELT'S METHODS
■ (Received L::«t Night/ 5.5 o'clock.) ■' NEW YORK, August' 24. Mr Arch bold. President of the Staudard Oil Company, giving evidence before the Campaign Contributions Committee, said that Mr Roosevelt had tried extortion during his second 'administration, because the Trusts failed to contribute enough money towards his campaign. The witness declared that Mr RooseveltN. attacks upon the Standard Oil Company directly resulted in the death of Messrs Henry Rodgers and Henry Gifford, two of tho directors, of the Company. Mr Arch bold admitted that the Company contributed £25,000 towards the Presidential campaign in 1904.

Mr Roosevelt Ins denied Mr Archbold'& charges in toto. Ho says he knew nothing of any contributions from the Standard Oil Company. Mr Roosevelt added that Mr Archbold made many appeals to him not to prosecute "the Standard Oil Company. Mr Roosevelt insinuated that Mr Penrose's relation with Mr Archbold. when Mr Penrose was a member rf the Industrial Committee, would not bear investigation.
