CRIME IN AUCKLAND
ITS CAUSE EXPLAINED
(By Te.Uora.pn- — FreM HSioniaUon.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. Tn the House of Eeprosentatives .this afternoon, the Hon A. L. Herdman made a] statement apropos of Mr A. M. Myers' reference of yesterday concerning tlio state <jf the polic« force in Auckland. Tlie statement made it clear that Auckland had all eft pes. from a line between Now Plymouth and Gi shorne North, tried or ' sentenced there. That fact, together with Auckland's peculiar geographical position, was responsible for the increased number of criminals a wearing before the courts in ', Auckland. The Commissioner of Police (who prepared the report) stated that he bail asked for four extra sergeant* and ■ twenty constables for Auckland.
