THE MEMBER FOR MASTERTON.
The member for Masterton (Mr G. R. Sykes) made his maiden speech in tho House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, when, judging from the condensed report that has reache 1 us, he acquitted himself remarkably well. His references to the lana and tixation questions'show that he ! s possessed of democratic ideas, and that he is s-incere in the desire that the resources of the Dominion .should be developed. His suggestion that working men should be afforded an opportunity of obtaining leasehold-, with the ultimate idea of becoming freeholders, will bo endorsed hy * large number of his constituent*. We congratulate Mr Sykes upon his maiden effort.
