MEN WANTED.

The statement contained in a paragraph in this issue, to tho effect that men are refusing station work at 30s per week and found, in the Wairarapa district, will strengthen the hands of those who demand that the Government should take f>teps to import agricultural labour. It seems an extraordinary thing that men should refuse work in the country on the sole pretext of the isolation involved. And yet there seems to he no room for doubt that in this Dominion, as in. the Commonwealth, there is a strong tendency towards aggregation in the cities. The matter is a serious one for the State, for not only is the development of the primary resources retarded, but the demands upon the charitable institutions of the towns are inordinately large. The problem is one which thp Government should deal with at the earliest possible moment.
