SERIOUS CHARGE
AGAINST MINISTER OF WORKS
(Received Last Night, 11.20 o'clock.) LONDON, August 19.
A Royal Commission has been appointed as the result of speeches by Messrs Parkes and Henley in the Assembly to inquire whether tho Ministor of Public Works lias boon guilty of corrupt practices in connection with certain public works.
Mr Henley's cousel asked for an enlargement of the Commission to admit the question whether the Minister was guilty of maladministration. The Commissioner said that he would limit the inquiry to the charges of corrupt practices. He had nothing to do with the questions of administration.
Mr Henley's counsel thereupon intinuvtod that his client would tender no evidence if the inquiry was limited to the charge of corrupt practices.
Mr Parkes wrote stating that he was willing to appear when he was called.
