A SERIOUS MENACE.
The Itawera Hospital Beard is drawing the attention cf the Healtli Department to the fact that persons suffering from infectious diseases are. being admitted to the Dominion, and tint these are becoming a permanent biirdc/i on the Hospital Boards. There :* no doubt that, despite the law which prohibits persons suffering f'rerr infectious diseases from enteringffth t Dominion, scarce of infected immigrants and oversea undesirables are being liberated upon this country. The medic.il examination of passengers by incoming vessels -is of. such a pefunctory character that there is no wonder the health of citizens is being memie ed by infection. The Department should insist thaf the exam-nation :>t the port of arrival sliould be effective, and sliould also warn intending immigrants, and shipping companies that the law is to be rigidly enforced.
