AN ASSURED TENURE.
It is now as certain as that night follows day that the ■tenure of the Massey Government is secure for the remainder of tho present Parliament. Evidence is daily forthcoming that
members on the other aide of the House are reconciling themselves to the inevitable. Some, indeed, of the ■more- moderate men—such as Mr W. D. S. Macdonald—are only waiting for a favourable opportunity to' get over the fence. This opportunity will como when a leader of the Opposition is appointed. In the meantime, it io significant that the appointment of a leader is being indefinitely deferred. Tho only inference to bo drawn is that the Opposition is hopelessly divided. It is also significant thaw in the course of a speech in the House last night, one of the Labour members (Mr W. A. Veitch) said he was prepared to give tho Government a fair run.
