CRIMINAL SESSIONS. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) CH R [STCHURCH, Last Night. Tlia criminal sittings of the Supreme Court opened this morning, before Mr Justice Denni.stori. Michael McGrath came up for sentence on a charge of forgery aod. uttering. He was cfentenced to 18 months, and was v,• cacti that ho was rapidly approaching the habitual offender s.'tage. Harry Jackson, a young man, pleaded guilty (1) that .between November 12th, 1911 and December lob, 1911 he received various sums of money amounting in all to £7 9s 3d, in terms .requiring him to account for and pay the same to his employers, Messrs .Neil and Co., and did fraudulently convert the same to his own,u», and thereby commit the crime of theft, (2) that between September 15th, 1911 and April 20th 1912 he did receive and fraudulently convert to his own hp a various «umr> cf money n mount iog in all to £313 12s 4d, and (3) that on various dates between October 26th, 1911 ;mkl June Ist, 1912, he did receive and fraudulently convert to his ownMise £llO 7s kl. Patrick McClusky and Thomas Collins both pleaded guilty to having on May lltli, at Ohristehurch assaulted and robbed onp George Robert Francis Miles. McC'lusky was sentenced to three months.'' imprisonment, and Collins to six months, His Honour taking into consideration the fact that they had been, in gaol for threo months, and that it was McClusky's first offence. Albert David Willhms Clement pleaded not guilty to a charge of having on June 3rd at Ohristehurch, committed an assault upon Henry Symons, whereby he killed Symows. The.prisoner also pleaded not guilty to a minor count of assaulting Symons. Clements w:is convicted, tontenco being postponed until to-morrow. Timothy Twomey was convicted of stealing a greenstone brooch u'.id a pursx; from a woman, and on a further charge of stealing a rolled gold watch. The ensi fins adjourned until to-morrow.
