PARLIAMENT
(By Telegraph —Press Acsociation.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. RENT OF OFFIChS. Tho Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. On the motion of tho Hon. J. Paul, a return was ordered showing the total amount poid by the Government during the past year for rent of offices in. the chief centres of the Dominion. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL REFORM.
The Legislative Councils Election Bill was i.ntroducod by the Hon. H. D. Bell and reid a hrjifc time. EDUCATION COMMISSION. The discussion on the Hon. ... Jenkinson's motion that -committee set up to consider' the report of the Education Commission was resumed by the Hon. Mr Loughnan, who supported the proposal. The Hon. G. Jones paid tiip country was indebted to the late Government for setting up the Commission, and to the Commission for the* report it had brought down. He considered that the time had arrived when Parliament- should review the whole education system, with a view to improving it in various directions. He was of the opinion that it would make the yystem more complex than at pre sent if they introduced such elements as some of those trie Commission had suggested. Some of the proposals, however, were very good. The motion was carried. SECOND READINGS. The Deputy-Governor's Powers Bill and New Zealand University Senate Bill were received from the House and read a.second time. On the motion of the Hon. H. D. Bell the counc. then adjourned till the 21st inst., the Minister explaining that in all probability no business would be comjr.g from the house next week.
