Tlife .sudden death" occurred at Carterton an Monday night of Joseph Oates, a verAy old resident. . He Avas on Monday doing (business as usual, and Avas in high spirits l . He had not been in ill health. The death occurred at Napier on Monday evening of Mr George Stockdale, formerly of Masterton. The deceased, who had boon for some (time in the employ of Messrs Pinhey Bros, of Masterton, has a mother and sister residing at Greytown. Mr J. D. Dunn, has been subeditor of the Wairarapa Daily Times for the past t'Avelvo months, and who has accepted a position on the New Zealand Times in Wellington, was presented yesterday morning by the literary staff and commercial staff of the Daily Times with a. handsome sot of pipes as a. mark of appreciation. The presentation Avas made by Mr D. M. Graham (manager), avlio referred to the excellent work Mr Dunim had accomplished during ithe period he had been associated with the Times, and wished him every success in the future, sentiments which wore re-echoed by the editor (Mr Ohevassus.) Mr Dunn left for Wellington yesterday afternoon. Mr G. Focke, German Consul at Wellington, has been officially informed that Dr Sohultz, Chief Justice at Samoa, has been appointed Governor of that part of the German Empire, in place of Dr Solfo Avho Avas recently promoted -to tho position of Colonial, Secretary at Berlin. Dr Schultz, avlio spent some time in New Zealand, a few years ago, has been acting-Cover-I nor of Samoa, since the retirement of Dr Solfe. Visitors at the Club Hotel include Mr and .Mrs Taylor and family, Mr and Mrs Prince' (Wellington), Mrs Bunny (Hinakura). Mr MaxAvell (Napier), Mr Perkins, Mr Graham (Christchurch), Misses McLaren (3) Bush Gully). Messrs Farrat, Garner, Bedford, Richardson, Dahl, Teagle, Wilson, Bird Mason, Lesaeur, Morrin, Kinvig, Robinson, Nagle, and Wyatt (Wellington).
It is with some regret that we record the death of Mr Campbell D. C'iiHoy, a young man. who lias for some years been associated with the social life of Mastorton, and whose bright and active disposition endeared him to everybody with whom he came in contact. The Into Mr C'arley, who was only twentv-two years of age. was the son of Mr I. Carlev. of Essex Street, Mastorton. He had heen on the staff of Messrs Dalgety and Co.. Ltd., for .several years, and was a most orfri/etie and conscientious worker. He was keenly interested in hockev and other forms of sport, and his uclden death will come as a shock to the community. His relations wilt have the sincere svmnathy of a large number of friends in their sad bereavmnnt. The funeral takes place at 2.30 o'clock to-morrow.
