COPYRIGHT BILL
NEW FEDERAL MEASURE. (Received July 27, 9.5 a.m.) MELBOURNE, July 27. The Copyright Bill has been introduced in the Senate. It repealls the existing legislation, and makes the British Act of 1908 applicable to Australia. It further provides that copies made outside of Australia of a work which i if they were made m Australia would infringe the Copyright Act shall, if the owner desires, be treated as a prohibited import. The Bill also provides for reciprocal copyright with other Dominions not adopting the British Act. The penalties are increased from £2 to £SO for each copy of a work infringed. The term "book" includes every part of book, pamphlet, or sheet of letterpress, map, plan, or chart.
