MASTERTON BOXING CLUB

A SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT.

•Notwithstanding i/he unfavourable weather conditions, there was a, large crowd present at the Town Hall last •evening, when the Mastertou Boxing Club held the firet tournament of the seaton. Tho standard <'f boxing w.is on the whole good, and the decisions of referee T. Sampson, cl' Wellington, were well received.

Hives' improved towards the end, and got home mveral blows to the Lead. The second round was all in favour of Hivos, who land ed. several good straight lefte, and got home heavy rig P.it swings. The third was a, quiet round, both men sparring most of the time. There was practically no hitting,, Hives landing a few blows t.o the which did vie damage. In the fourth round' Hivcr' did .0.1 l the leading, and .got in sevcra' lefts, biTit his punches had no weightHives w bleeding wihen he went to his corner. At the commencement of the last rouind, both 11113.1 mfxed it freely, and blood' flowed from, the faces of both. The .round cud'ed quietly. The referee declared Hives the winner.
