GOVERNMENT POLICY.
Although the Prime Minister ; did not 'disclose the Government policy at the "social" tendered the member for Pahiatua last night, he taid sufficient to justify the belief that land legislation will be introduced during the •ensuing session. Mir Ma&sey rightly wemtend's what the great problem (awaiting solution in this country is 'che settlement cf the land. If he cam succeed in placing families upon the (large estates anid ,vh© unoccupied iCroww and Native lands, he wiM do something whitih will snake his name live long en the memories of the people. Before the question of land settlement, ail others pale into iius'ignificaiioe. In tlic'is connection, it would he well if the ■ Pd'ime. Minister could (be induced to visit Masterton and be yirnvn eomaitry which is admirably adapted .fori closer settlement.
