PROPOSED HIGH SCHOOL.
A sub-committee of the j.lj-oierton Trust Lands. Trust lias suggested that the Ma.storton District High School b? disestablished, and that in ifa' place a High School proper, with a Rector arid Board of Governors, ba established. The sub-committee fails to show what advantage would 'be derived by the proposed' elm age. Is it aware that tile education imparted', at a Higili Stthool would be practically >lue riamo ay that given at the District High School ? Does it think that Mr Jackson, the S'cliool Coimmi'ttee ov the Education Board would be favourably disposed towards such a change? Hie s.ubcomir.(titee is wrong in ouppo&ir.ig till at if the District High School wore disestablished, a High School. cou'd be put "in its place." The disestablishment cf the I!strict .H'igh Stihool would mean only the cutting off of the secondary classes. The primary would remain ay a.t pjjeeen':-, ?lnd separate buildings, separate raff and separate management would /have to be provided for a High School. T1 ir would imply dual gr.int.s from tb.Trust, without a corresponding advantage. It seems to any that .if t'he Trvstees were to make provision for tin' 1 endowment of an' Agricultural College they would be doing more to promote t'he educational intere-Ts of i* district t'han bv attempting, without a sufficient reason, to disestnbludi an institution wliiioh is at preseir; doi.'>g excellent work, and serves all Hie immediate requirements of the district.
