FOUR HUNDRCO THOUSAND STARVING
BEN TILLETT ON THE "DEVONPORT GANG."

LONDON, July 1.. The Strike Committee has issued a. manifesto in which 5t declares that, the employers have flagrantly broken the agreements. It estimates that, nearly £50,000 has been pilfered from the men's wages, over 60 per cent, of whom earned less than a pound weekly.. The strike funds are depleted, and. four hundred thousand people are starving. It makes an urgent appeal for assistance. Mr Bon Tillett is supporting the manifesto calling upon the Government "to force Devonport and iiis gang oif thieves from power. If anybody deserved to be killed," said Mr Tillett, "it was that gang who, smiling wider in the security of the bayonets of soldiers and the bludgeons of police, wero maddening the men." Mr Tillett added that -lie would deem it a righteous act to rob tho Bank of England for the men's benefit.
REFUSAL OF MEN'S DEMANDS JUSTIFIED.

LONDON, July 19. Lord Devonport .justifies his refuel to agree that the men should resume work under the prrne conditions as prior to the strike, hecau.se the concession granted in August had been abused, and hs>d enabled the leaders to force the federation ticket on men applying for work. The employers now demand that the men should resume order and conditions obtaining prior to August.
