THE LICENSING QUESTION.
The N.Z. AO'anco has lost no time in placing ite demands before the new Prime 'Minister. The deputation which wfaited upon M.r Mcosey on Tuesday eventing iwas not by any means modest. It asked for quite a numbeir of •tilings "ivhit'b .it- knew that the Prime 'Minister 'was not in a position to give. Mi 1 JVfa&sey .was* very candid with the deputaton. He said he had no intention of 'bringing down licencing legislation this'session, buth'e'ted no objection to a private member doing .so. Indeed, lie said lie would place no obstacle in. the; way of a private member's Bill being parsed. The Plnime .Minister has 'taken quite the right step in thi.g matter. 'He has practically .told .the N.Z. Atliance that the licencing question is not one for pairty, but for individual members. If the .majority of member,s of the House are ini favour of the bare majority, it will .be given. If not, it Avill be refused; That i.s isurely a fair position to 'fake up.
