THE COMPETITIONS.
The Masterton Competitions, so far as the judging is concerned, were coneluded yesterday. From the point of view of (public interest they have proved ran (unqualified success, and it i>> hbpe'd that ithey wild' produce lasting educfational benefits. The work of th judges has been difficult, and naturally ,-mamy of the competitors are disappointed. Sb'ill, ,in niof.it cases the -verdict was supported, by good reasoning. Possibly the Society may coneider it deshubfe to 'have fresh judges next year, so if hat there may not 'b? even a suspicion of leonscioiic or iunconsc-ious Ibias. 'The Committee of ithe Society and the Secretary (Mr W. Gillespie) are deseisviing of the utmost credit for the success 'which has .attended thia year's festival.
