Several times during the past month deer have paid visits to the settlement. 1 Though later on in the season their 'visits are frequent, it is unusual for them to leave the shelter of the bush at this time of the year. Th'e .monthly meeting df the School Committee, which was to have taken place on July Ist, was, owing to tlw albsence of the secretary, postponed for a week. A very pleasant evening w «j spent in tho h,all on Saturday, when the usual fortnightly dane; took j place. The success of these gatherings has ibeen .somewhat marred lately owing to the continuous wet weather, but 'judging Iby tlu energy displayed by those .who occupied the lloor on Saturday night, dancing is not going to iba allowed to decline. Quite a number of people from hero are at present away far holidays. Mr J. S. Lozell, Mr J. Dick and Ma- iC. t]jje are spending. a few 'weeks in 'Auckland. Mr Pallant snr. is visiting relatives in Palmerston. Mr -Donald Pallant, who is studying at the Wellington Training College for teachers, & spending his vacation with relatives in .this district.
