MINERS TROUBLE
VIEWS OF A MINE-OWNER.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
DUNE-DIN, Last Night,
In. conversation ;to-day with a reporter, a well 'kiiow'n Dunedin coal mine •proprietor, referring to the remarks imade by some .speakers at a meeting of the Kaitangata miners on Friday, said at was quite possible Ibr the miners allied 'to the Federation of Labour to bring about a condition of affairs that might startle even themselves. He stated that the coalmine owners were now a federated (body throughout the Dominion, and they were getting absolutely tired of the everlasting unrest that was prevailing amongst the workers in 'the various coal mines, and the continued threats of the labour leaders. Bather tlian 'stand much more in this direction, the owners. would ultimately taike the bull by the horns, and close down every mine in the Dominion, until such time as reason (prevailed, and nvork could be carried oil with some degree 'df security. The informant continued thaU while members of the Federation were ifree to strike, since they iwere nodi now registered under the Arbitration Act, the employers also, if they deemed fit, were just as free to lock out. It was quite on the c'ardiq, therefore, that the Federation workers, instead of bringing about a local strike, might have to face a general look-out.
