THE PREMIER-ELECT.
The Premier-elect — Mr W. F. M'assey —>has ibeen showered with congratulations from one end of the Dominion to 'the other. From the day .that li? entered Parliament about sixteen
years ago, he has heen regarded us a man of 'strong personality and iiig.li Ideals. Nine years hack he was selected to succeed Sir William Russell Leader 'of the Opposition, and it at .tribute to his honesty cif purpose that ho' has throughout retained the unqualified confidence of his party. Ho is. a nnan of marked ability and wide sympathies, with a natural abhorrence'of '.nil that savours of corruption. He has won his (place as chief citizen of the .Dominion .by sheer 'hard work and devotion to the cause of reform. Those who expect that he will be a tool in the hands of the privileged clafscis, and will legislate accordingly, Avi.ll 'be grievously disappointed. We knoAv sufficient of Mr Maa'iey to 'ho able to my that lie will steer .a course in politics Avhicla, Avhile restoring confidence, will make for the 'amelioration of the condition <oT the Avorkcr and for the general advancement of the interests of the people as a whole.
