TITANIC ENQUIRY
THE QUESTION OF SPEED,
Received This Morning, 12.30 o'clock. LONDON, June 30. At the Titanic inquiry, Sir Rufus Isaacs said the Titanic had not desired to make- a record trip, but if the opeed had been reduced to eight knots shemight hf#ve collided, but would not have sunk. There was only forty seconds between the sighting of the ion and the impact. It was idle to suggest that the accident was of a kind which must occur. Lord Mersey incidentally said that he was inclined to think the whole disaster was due to excessive speed.
