A New Plymouth wire states that i the local directors of the Taranaki ; OiT Wells, Ltd., have received a cable from London advising that the i refinery managers are due to arrive at ; New Plymouth on July 25th. In his estimate of the requirements, for the ensuing year, the Superintendent of the Masterton Fire Brigade has included an amount for. uniforms for the brigade members". The present uniforms have been in use for the- past fifteen years. : At the Wanganui Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, George Allen, who is well-known in the Masterton district, pleaded' guilty to throe charges of 'forging and uttering. During the past month the Masterjton Fire Brigade aud Fire Police have met and discussed the question of amalgamation. The Superintendent reported to the Fife Board on Thursday that per cent of the members had voted in favour Of amalgamation, a small minority of the Fire Police being' against the 1 proposal. The Superf iiitendent expressed the opinion that an amalgamated Brigade could undertake the duties of both corps at considerable less cost; of upkeep than, at ' present. '■-v -
'At the sitting of the Cost of Living Commission at Auckland, Eugene Langruth, a merchant, objected to give evidence, stating, when asked for his reason,, that a:member\of the Commission. had written letters to Parliament about trusts, 1 anil ; other things. The attendances at the Masterton Technical School averaged 80 per cent during the past quarter, which is considered a very satisfactory results ■
In his annual report to the Master-, ton Fire Board, Inspector Hugo stated that two of the nozzles used were defective, and should not be ijsed for fire extinguishing purposes. . During the first term of the Masterton Techkriical School, there was 203 pupils on the roll. The average attendance during the term was 162. During the first term of the Masterion Technical School, there was 203 17s 6d was paid in salaries. There were 125 pupils receiving free instruction during, the past term.
