THE PRESIDENCY

CABLEJNEWC

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright.)

NEW PASTY FORMED MR ROOSEVELT DETEEiL] N ED. (Received Last Night, 11.5 o'clock.) CHICAGO, June 21. Owing to the certainty of their losing office, it is unlikely that more than 200 Rooseveltites will participate in tho "bolt." The Illinois delegation, by 56 votes to 2, decided riot to participate. The Ohio and lowa delegated are of the same opinion. A meeting of the Wisconsin and CaHifornian delegates favoured a new party. It is evident that Mr Rooseivelt and Governor Hadley are desirous of restraining their more ardent adherents from precipitating action which would threaten financial danger. To secure the Presidency on an "independent" ticket, Mr Roosevelt would require £1,000,000, and it is doubtful if his friends will stand the strain. Apart from the Rooseveltite protest to the Credentials Committee, the most definite indication of his probable action was given by Mr Roosevelt in an address to his supporters, including two of the delegates of each of his States. He said: "If an honestly-elected majority of the Convention nominates me as the Republican candidate, I will accept it. If it fears to do so, and the remainder nominate me as a progressive, on a progressive platform, and the general feeling among the Progressives favours the nomination, I shall accept it. In either case, I shall a.ppeal to every honest citizen to fight the campaign through, win' or lose."
