EARLY SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION
BRANCH SUGGESTED FOR MASTERTON.
In a letter to Mr R. Brown, of Masterton, Dr. Cameron, of Wellington, one of the Committee of the Early Settlers Association, suggested the formation of a branch of the Association in Masterton. Dr. Cameron says:—"As you have a good library, probably a small collection of IrV.i'-'V'ira.l curies of local hitareat could be stored and exhibited there. Objects of provincial , interest could be sent to Wellington. As the Association is to have an historical side, it would be best to have Committees in the provincial towns to work up the local history/and. record the works of the early pioneers in those districts. Special gatherings could also ho held in these centres." Dr. Cameron concludes by stating that he has written to several old settlers of the Wairarana on the subject.
