THE LABOUR TROUBLE.
The iresuTt of the conference between the mfiiie-ow-naris land the Labour Federations 'at Waihi is by no means reassuring. The 'Federation apparently went to rthe conference with the fixed deteirminatJoin 1 of arriving at no agreement which iwtouild ibe binding upon them. "fhey a'beolutefiy refused to have anything to do wi-Uh the Arbitration-- Act. Tlie position n'ow is that the Labour -Federation!, which claims to have the workers elf the Dominion; ;behind it, cntendis putting up what Mr Semple dc'soribe's as-' "a fight with the' bnire krAxkles." In other words, the Labour Federation-, 'wibich lehiefly euibr'aocs that section of the workers who have cancelled their registration .under the Arbitration Act, •intends'-using its utmost erideavttors to precipitate a gonciral strike. The position- is one of extreme gravity to the whole Dominion. Ibe .Government, which has rsmain-ed passive- 1 until mow, will be compelled to take action immediately to preserve the community from disaster. The time- has come whehi the paid .agitator and organiser of strikes 'must be dealt '-with in a. salutary manner.
