AN IMPORTANT MEETING
OF EAST COAST SETTLERS. ' \ ROAD CONSTRUCTION WANTED. A meeting of East Coast settlers was held at Whakataki on the 15th insb., for purpose of petitioning I (the .Catsifclepoint County Council to \ continue the construction!, of the Mas- . c-rton-Waimata road from Whakattaki ! '.to Ma-taikona, the latter place ibeing JJhe llim.it df the road 1 within: tihe Cas- | tlcipo-int County. . There .were present,—Messrs R. Barton and J. Muttro (North Riding),, E. T. Barton, A. 'A. Cameron, H. O'Kane, J. Holes, W. Hairvey, E. W; Groves, J. Bairty (East .IRiding), and D. H. Speedy (Councillor fo'r East Riding). Mr J. Barton, C.E., also -attended.
It was proposed 'by (Mr E. F. Bartori, and seconded by Mr J. Barty, "That'in the opinion of this meeting ■the continuation) of the com»tructioi» of that portion of the Mastertoni-Wai-mata road between Whakaitaki and (Mataikonia. should foe proceeded with farthwiftffi." '. ..' '"'/ ■

Proposed by Mr E. F. Barton, seconded by Mr Harvey, -"That a respectful petition be forwarded to the OaMepoint County Council, calling upon them to carry out the work." A comiimittee was. appointed to obtain, sign aicires aimd present ihe petition' to the Castlepoint County Council at the meeting on 29th Joine. A vote of thamkis to, Councillor Speedy for his attendance was passed unanimously.
