, FURNISHING OF ASSEMBLY ROOM.

At last night's meeting of the Masterton? Trust Lands Trust, Mr T. Wagg moved, hi accordance with notice of motion given, that a . special grant of £IOO be .made to t|he Mag.tertbn District High School tfor the purpose of furnishing the new Assembly Hall. Mr Wagg explained that his motion depended upon the granting of a £ for £ subsidy from, the Wellington Education' Board. This sunn, if granted (by the Trust, together with the Education Bodrd grant and money already granted, would he sufficient to furnish the hall m a manner befitting so fine a (building. Mr O. N. C. Pragne 1 !, in .supporting the motion:, said that in making such a. grant the Trust would be benefiting the many, and adding to the comfort and convenience of the Unttjle one© who attended the school. It was the duty of the Trust to assist in matters oif this nature.

Mr Caselberg said that while he thought, the idea, was a good one, as far as the Trust was concerned, ifc was purely a matter of finance. Be favoured leaving the' miatter in the hands of the finance committee, chd if the .money was available the grant should be made, cf mot the full amount, a ;simallier grant could be mside. There were so many deiimnds en the Trust that it would be hardly fair to neglect other deserving ohjeots. Mr Daniel! supported Mr Caselberg' s idea, and shlid that while the object was in every way a meet deserving one, he thought it would be advisable to leave the 'matter to the finance committee. Mr Robinson, thought that the finance .comimitee should dei:H- witih the {matter, with a recommendation to miake the grant tiif the money was available.

Mr Jackeon explained the requireiments' of the Assembly Room in regard (to (furnishing, etc., and the ultimate cost. He. ;was pleased that the (Trusit was favourably disposed towards assisting to furnish such *«* i impolrtanrt adjunct to the ischoo 1 !, in doing which they were helping the most importamt work of education. " The chairman' favoured the maitter -being deialt with by the finance com■mitrftee. Mr Daniel! .moved that the question of the grant he referred to the Finanoa C-omimiJttee, to be considererl ' when the estimates'' carme up for discussion;. Mr Caseiberg seconded the motion. Mr !"Wa@g withdrew his motion in favour c£ the' latter motion, which was carried.
