MR H. C. ROBINSON
AND HIS SCHOOL PROPOSALS.
At it-lie (monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust last evening, Mr H. 0. Robinson, with the leave of the meeting, moved the following resolution : (1) Thait with a view to securing the c!f one or more of .'die following objects—namely (a) A High School, (b) aai Agricultural School, (c) a good system 0 f nicholarsh!ii>s— a- ccimrittee to consist 'of ■Me-uars Thos. B. Michell, T. Wagg, and H. C. Robinson (convenor) be set up, wiitlh authority to -enquire c<s ■ o the best; means' cf bringing about th Q .above objects, or 'any of them, aad as to 'which cf these is imcst practicable and preferable. Sudi committee to have authority to make all enquiries, .and to submit a; report to the Trustees, and to include in' .yuch report i drr.ifb amendment ctf the governing statutes to enable the report to b? j avvried into effect. (2) That with a view to stimiulating ipu'Wic opinion on educational matters, Sir Robert Stout be invited ,to deliver an aeklrens in Ma&teirton upon education . •Mr Rfcbinson explained that he was pledged to carry out a. certain policy. °He desired to be given' an opportunity, together with the com inittge suggested, to carry that policy wA. It was for the' Trustees "to deV'He. The cornimittee would have the duty of gaining all the nece-ttary ii - '• formation. He. had .chosen Messrs Wagg and Miichell -because both had »spoke.n' in favour of the motion. Mr Catselberg did not see that the o.vnwnititee could do any harm, and o ■the- other kind .might do quite a. let rf good. For that reason ho would second the motion. Mr Pragnell stated that he had already spoken in favour cif an agricv. itural school, ulhich he considered wDijld be of grciat value in a farming district, and he /would not for that rcvon oppe'se the motion. Mr Roblinson bad said that he was pledged 'to iv . .ceitaim' policy . Yet Mr Robinson at the Trust election had said that he had no policy. Mr Robinson: didn't." Now, said Mr Pragnell, he was stepping down, and with two of the members icf the Trust he was bring•ing forward a- policy. He {Mr Pr;g----i n-e'il) was of. the opinion that the whole Trust should be consulted, lie would not oppose the forming of a committee. The chairman (Mr Krahagen) ■thought that the matter woald take a deal 'icif time to consider. He did not think that the. time was ripe, but 1 o. •thought that Yhe forming cif a- oominwbtee was a ftood idea. At -he same .time he considered that Messrs Jackson and Daniel! should be memb?vs eif ithe cornimittee, on account of their ■knowledge of icducational matters. Mr Jackson said that he would be p-lcr.sed to give every ass.-.;ai L e to any branch cf education. He weald ["•advocate !that every ibranch of education receive due con siderotic a. . Ma- .Eariell 1 was cf the opinion* that •a.corariittee could gain yanab'p Oi,d -useful information. He saw no.iea--.con why the' committee, «h..uld not «be set up to make enquiries.
