REGISTRATION OF A UNION
COMPLAINED OF BY FEDERATION OF LABOUR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. * A deputation, from the Federation of Labour waited on the Minister of Laibour- (Hon. G. Lauren son) this afternoon, complaining of the to register the Waihi Engine-drivers' Union under the Arbitration Act. They urged that it was unjust and undemocratic that a small body of men, comprising the part of a union that had cancelled its registration, should be able to form ia. new union, and register thereby the whole body of workers in the industry under the Act against their will. 'This really amounted to compulsory registration, and if persevered in would lead to n. great deal of industrial conflict. Mr Laurenson, in reply, said that the law officers had advised that the registration of the AVaihi Engine-drivers' Union could not bo refused. It'seemed to him, however, that the deputation had made out a very strong case indeed, and ho would bring the matter before Cabinet'with a view to supplying some remedy when Parliament met.
