APPOINTMENT OF TEACHERS.
The Inspector-General df Schools (Mr G. HogbenJ made ,an important statement before the Education Commission at Auckland yesterday. He expressed 'die opinion that the appointment of 'teaohors i-hctuld he finally made by Education Boards, and not by School Committees,, as at present. This opinion is Shared by a* large section of .the teachers throughout the Dbminfon. Years ago the appoiivfcmenitis were en* tiroly in the hands of the Boards. In the itijme of the late Miv'S'eddon, however, it was thought politic to extend 'th'3 func'tiens of, 'the 'dommutcees • in •this direction. The result has been anything but satisfactory. When the 'Education Act was last amended, the (Minister made an effort to return to 'che originals'condition, but Parliament appeared afraid to /offend the School Committees), and the Boards and Committees have since beem in continual conflict in consequence of the ambigI'uity of the Act.
