Mr A'. I), Gillies, manager of the Masterton abattoirs, who is shortly to . join the ranks of the benedicts, was the recipient of a 'handsome presentation at the Masterton butchers dinner on Thursday evening. Mr D. Ogilvy, chairman, in, presenting Mr Gillies with a beautiful marble clock, said that it was a, very pleasant duty to propose the "health of Mr Gillies and his bride-elect, and in doing so he would wish them long life and happiness. T'ho other uwvstcr butchers pre- - sent spoke of Mr Gillies in. eulogistic terms, and it was generally conceded that they could not have a more capable man in charge of the ' borough •abattoirs. Mr Gillies briefly responded.
Mr D. M. Mcintosh, who for the past twelve veairs .lias been a member of the Masterton Post Office staff, has received notice of Ms promotion, to '/the Hastings office. Mr Mcintosh ' holds a high position among the tele- - ;graph operators of New Zealand, and „ 'has had -a very wide experience in many of the important offices throughout the Dominion. Mr Mcintosh is • one of New Zealand's prominent rifle •shots, and has a Jong List of prizes to this name. He has been Secretary of I the well-known Opaki Rifle Club ior j •a number of years, and also secretary | •of the Masterton- Morris Tube Rifle 'Club, and has do:ue splendid organic- | ing work for both bodies. Mr Mcfa- • tosh was one of the founders of the 1 - game of hockey in the "Wairarapa, and was himself one of Masterton's foremost players. He was also a_ keen ■bowling enthusiast. From this it will I>e readily recognised that Mr Mcintosh will bo very much missed when Hie, takes his departure from Masterton. ' The friends in Masterton of the Rev. • Buttle, who was some years ago in charge of the .local Methodist cir- • > cuit, will regret to . hear that he has suffered a rather serious breakdown in . health. I ) | Mr S. Clayton has 'been appointed a dairy instructor and grader in the Department of Agriculture. On Wednesday afternoon at Greyi town, the marriage-,was solemnised of-" ' Miss Lilian, Florence ("Lil") Wcnden, •■second, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Wende'hi, of Greytown, and Mr William Hall, third son of Mrs E. Hall, of Carterton. The. ceremony was performed at St. Luke's Church, Greytown, in. the presence of a large assemblage.
