Mr Alex. McFarlane, Chairman of Directors of the Ba.ll.ance Dairy Company, was a.visitor to Mastcrton yesterday. Mr V. H. Reod, M.P., who went to Wellington, to attend tihe Local Gov-* ornmen't Conifer er.ee, had to return to hi? home in, the North yesterday on account'of the death of his mother-in-law. Mr A. W. Hogg, oif Masterton., iurs been re-appointed a Government .representative on the Victoria College Council.

Mr J. Georgefcti has been appointed for a further term to the Wellington Land Board.

Messrs Bunny, Donald, Udy and Giipin have been appointed members of the Wairarapa Licensing Bench. i Sir Joseph and Lady Ward will return to New Zealand from Australia . Jjy the steamier Maunganui, reaching Wellington on the 2 ; 9th hust. On the following day Sir Joseph will be presented with an address, and Lady, Ward with a souvenir afc the Town Hall, on beihalf of tlhe citizens. In pursuance of the policy outlined by the Minister of Railways a few days ago, Mr C. A. Piper has been appointed Traffic Superintendent fcr the North Island.

The remains of the late Miss Pcrston were interred in the Masterton cemetery yesterday afternoon. It is generally understood, says die Taranaki News, t'hiat in the event of Mr Wiilliaim Jennings not contesting Taumarunui at the next general election, Mr A. Scholes (chairman of the Waitemata County Council) will be a candidate in the Government interest.

A farewell meeting was held at Mrs Parsonsoh's residence, Hogg Crescent, 'la&fc evening, to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs A. Anstice, who are leaving Masterton, Mr Anstice to take charge of the Feilding Baptist Church. JPastor iSwinerd presided. The meeting Mas well attended, over forty U'Y.'jr present. Recitations were given by Mrs Iveson, Mrs Turner and Mr Morris; solos by Mrs A. Anstice, Mrs Adjutiant Ha'lstquist, and Pastor Swinerd. Miss Rixon kindly officiated -at the organ.. Short addresses were given byMrs Hallstquist, Mr Parsonson, Mr Redmond, and Pastor Swinerd. At the close of the meeting a presentation was made to Mr and Mrs Anstice by Paster Swinerd, on behalf of the members and friends of the Church. Mr and Mrs Anstice feelingly replied. TXainty refreshments were supplied by the ladies of the congregation. A very enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of "God be I with you till wo meet again."
