HIGH COMMISSIONERS' CABLED REPORT.
, The Department of Agriculture has ■received the .following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London, dated llt-h May. (Note —Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices spot): —■ Mutton —The market is quiet but firm. Nominally. Canterbury 4ad per lb, Nortih Island 3fd per lb.
Lamb. —The market is active with a good demand. Prices are firm. The market lias been favourably affected by the shortage of Home supplies and a' decline of 23 per cent, of imports during the year. The weather continues favourable. Canterbury 3d per lb., other than .Canterbury 53d. : Beef. —The market remains firm, and a good demand continues. Best quality is scarce. New Zealand hinds 42d per lb, fores 3|d per lib.
Butter. —The market is steady with an improved demand. The decline is checked, and on the whole prices are sliglit.lv better this week. Choicest New Zealand butter to-day per cwt is 111st; Banish. 115s; Siberian IOGs, Argentine 105s, Australian. 106s>
Cheese.—There .is a better demand. The market is firmer. New Zealand white, 70s to 71s per cw.t,; coloured, 71s to 72s per cwt.
