THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.
"VANITY FAIR."
Before eight o'clock last evening the , ; Foresters' Hall was packed to the . doors it;o witness the cm-rent progromune of pictures, which contained a special att.rar.tkm in the great threea.ct drama, "Vanity Fair." This drama is ccrtrfm.lv the finest work presented' by Messrs Thompson and Payne, 'and -this, is saying a lot when mo .recalls the many splendid dramas fchey lhavo ! placed before- their patD'on's,. The- Yitagraph Company have excelled themselves in the staging and acting of this play, while the photography was excellent. The steadiness of 'the .picture shown iby the latest type .of nuK-hiae was remarked upon J iby the audience. It was a. delightful ' picture— ft .piotaire which should not be missod iby those who revere English literature and its traditions. Thackeray's great ■characters —Becky Sharp (cleverly portrayed hy Helen .Gardiner, one ic'f America's leading act- ' iress-cs), Joe Sedley (enacted by o,ur Halt friend John Bunny), Amelia Sedllcy (Rose Tapley), the Pitt-Crawleys, Captain Dobbin (Loft Johnston), Marquis of Stey.no, Lieut. Osborne (Leo iDolaney)— are portrayed with a (faithfulness, that icmik.es fhem lifeline. Tiro audience closely followed each seei:fc>, and evinced the greatest interest in'tibe various episodes in "the life of Becky Sharp.' This .splendid draima will be repeated again to-night, and 'fevers of .moving pictures are advised'.not t'O- n>:es this,-pictorial treat. A capital gerics of other subjects was also shown, among tihem being "The O'Neill" to .splendid Kail'em Irish drama), "Bomance of tlie Bio Grande," ('a. story of the perils surrounding the lives of early settlers in J America), "Indian Pride" (an- excitling Indian drama), "Tommy as Torei'aldor" (a side-splitting comic), "With 1 a Kodak" (A.B. comedy), "Married I without' knowing it" (comedy), land a naimbei- of other scenic, comic and industrial pictures. The children's i ma&tiee wil take place on Saturday afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock. Messrs Thompson and Payne announce Slaving obtained at considerable expense another great attraction for their patrons ion. Monday might, viz., tlhe .world famous drama, "It's never too late to Mend." Mr AH. jrkwthrflaa, AuistfcalHa'is greati actor and elocutionist, has-been specially engaged'to describe the -various incidents in the drama as they are thrown on *he screen. This should prove a treat for patrons of the Foresters' Htfll, romo will, no doubt, remember 'Mr Bootbman.'s splendid description of "The Mystery of a Hansom Oab" and "The Double ;Jfivent* when the J pictures were .shown by Messrs ' Thompson amd Payne recently.

, A .good greeted the change of programme wit on at the Town Hall last evening by the Masterton Picture .Company, and the audience showed marked appreciation, .of tlhe van-ions items presented. The fearifcure cf the programme was undoubtedfly (the A.B. production entitled "The Transformation of Mike," which,, as a'drama, imaist be mard 1 to heat,' and (the 1 various .stages cf the plot were (followed with .intense interest. The drama from, beginning to. e'nd is bristling with irc'all 1 and lifelike episodes -wfhioh .make the piece specially attractive. The picture entitled "Stage Struck lizzie" a's a daughter raiser can hardly be equalled, and kept the audience in the very best of humour. The main attractions arte supported by a programme of great variety, and should satisfy all (taste*, whether in search of dratma, comic's or scenics.
