At the meeting of t!he Masonic Grand Lodge in Dunedin, W. Bra. ±l. McPhee, of Belvedere, was elected. Grand. Pursuivant of the Wellington. District, and W. Bro. F. J. Hunny of Masterton, Grand Sword-Bearer. At the sitting of the Magistrate's Court in Gaitcrton yesterday, Mr L. G. licid, S.M., speaking to a full i opi. s.<rL'auion of the local Bar, said thai was the first sitting of the Court. ihico the death of tho late Mr Wardell, and he felt that it was fit/tins and right that he should pay a tribute to the memory of one who had been Magistrate of the district fifty yeqrs aj,o, when conditions were very different from what they were in the pre- .": L . dav, when troublesome times with ilv n n tr-es existed, and when very oriron . ciuMes devolved upon tho man. who was «ciministering justice in the district. Mr Wardell had been Magistrate in tic Waararapa for twentyfive years, and had filled tlat position, in a'way which bad won him the greatest respect from all. His wisdom and impartiality, and constant readiness to adjust neighbours' .disputes in a friendly way, had also caused him to bo regarded with tho greatest esteem, while his many fine? personal qualities had caused him to be looked up to by tho whole community. His memory would long be revered in the district, and as a mark of respect the Court would be adjourned for a quarter of an hour. '•
