WardeWi came to' Ibhis district.in the twribulenit tiimes— the days when ■'Europeans •■carried their lives in their hands. By the exercise of Ms great powers of persuasion with the Natives, much bloodshed was averted. He was a <man whose advice was always as eagerly sought as iit •was generously given. 'Of (splendid phyeiqiue, immense endurance, keen and judicial intellect, he wa.s one of Nature's TNTagistrates as well as Nature's Gentlemen. Full of years, he igoes down before the sickle of Time ■with a memory which will be revered (for foils intrinsic worth to humanity.
