MINISTER FOR RAILWAYS
INTERVIEWED AT AUCKLAND.

AUCKLAND, Last Night.
In the dcrarse of an interview, the Hon. A. ■Myers, Minister for Haulways, gave inforniaitiojY- regarding -the ibuilding programme of the Railway Department. To meet titoe largely increased demands on t3ie railway service in various paa-te of the Dominion, it is intended to place an. order for ten class "A" locomotives wiiitih Messrs Price Ltd., at the Thames, in addition to the ten constituting the order whidh 'this firm is executing at the present time. The Minister stated that th>a locomotive building programme provided for the construction of (sixty engines, forty-live (of which wjerc to be allocated to the North. Island, and in addition five class "X" locomotives are in the various -stages of construedion. The major portion- of the locomtotive programme would go to the Nortli Island, owing to the rapid increase in business that hj:& taken (place during the lost few years, and the .probability tJiat the increase would be maintained for «ome considerable time. In regard to the rolling stock, Mr Myers >statied that the- 'Niorth Island programme included the construction of sixty-lone cars, fourteen bogie wagons, and 780 i'our-wlheeled waggons, ■while for tlho boultli .Island there were allotted nineteen cars, one brake van, thirteen bogie waggbns, and 214 fourAi'heelcd waggonr,.
