Mr J. G. Wilson left Masterton for Wellington yesterday afternoon. Mr R. Dean, who has been in Masterton for some time, leaves this morning for Napier, where he intends opening a branch of the business of Dean Bros. Mr B. G. Synall, assistant clerk io the Rangitikei County Council for nine years, has been appointed clerk and treasurer to the Wairoa County Council. There were 122 applicants for tho position. At the usual practice of the Masterton Municipal Brass Band, held in the practice room last evening,- Bandmaster Elder, on behalf ~of tho members, presented Bandsman Briden, who has lately been married, with a silver teapot, suitably inscribed, as a small token of the esteem in which the. bandsman was held. Musical items were contributed by several members, and tho singing of "Auld Laiig Syne" brought an enjoyable evening to a close. Mr W. B. Howell yesterday relinquished the Chairmanship and membership of the Timaru High School, after being conenctcd with it since its inception, about thirty years ago.
