I WELLINGTON, Llast Night. ! Glorious weather favoured the op- ) ening day of nhe Wellington Racing I Ciu.b'iS autumn meeting. The fields were .flair, and the racing good. Puntem bod a bad time, only one favourite getting home during the day. The totalisator figure© for the day were £19,686 lUs, as against £13,044 for the «>rre>stponding day of the 1911 meeting. Results: — First Hack and Hunters' Steeplc-i-hase, of 100 sovs., two miles and a half.—Beeline 10,0 (A. Julian) 1; Dorando 11.13, 2; Glonmore 11.1, 3. Alsio started— Xavier 10.2, Rosegrove 10.0, Zante 10.0. Beeline led practically for the whole Msitance. Dorando' displaced Glen more in the straight, but could not catch the winner, who won easily. Also started— Los Angeles 9.3, Undecided 9.3, Dearest 8.6, Byron 8.5, Midnlighit Sun 8.3, Sir Knox* 7.13, Sea Queen 7.11, Merrivtonia, and Khamsin ; 7.7, Mira 7.7, Cd«ca 7.2, Nga.tiraunur 6.12, Sir Solo 6.7. Gip-y Belle assumed the lead early, and was followed by Boanerges and Sir Sblo, wstli Undecided close up. Nearing the straight the Stopniak .m'are still held a commanding position, and maintained it till the finish, despite a ■ defcerminied challenge by Boanerges. Won by a neck. Time, lmin v 42 4-ssecs. North Island Challenge Stakes, of c£o sovs., seven furlongs.— Bronze 9.6, (A. Olliver) 1; AutamriW 8.12, 2; Brown Owl 6.13, 3. Also started —Jaa 7.6, E'on Ton '7.1. Bootle, with Theodore and Bfandnera, led the field into the straight, where Merry Frank and Makaita displaced them, the foiv mw getting the verdict by a head. Blue Lake was fourth. TSnakori Handicap, of 100 sots., 6 irurlongs.— M. Victoria 7.3, 1; Disjunction 7.7, 2j Dirge 8.9, 3. Also started— Thrave 9.0, Amaru 8.0, Semaphore 7.12, Ohinee and Dogfish 7.7, Abercoetl 6.11, War Queen 7.1. Thiis race practically resolved itself into a battle between Mt. Victoria and Distinction, resulting in a victory for the former by a nose. Time, lmin. 16 4-ssecs.
